| dc.description.abstract | A new kind of osteonecrosis has been reported, first in connection with chemotherapy and later with bisphosphonate therapy. Bisphosphonates are used as adjunctive therapy with patients suffering from cancer. The connection between bisphosphonates and cancer has become evident because it is the only drug in common in the 79 cases of bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of the jaws reported in the literature up to 2005. Of these initial reported cases, 91% suffered from some type of cancer and 100% were being treated with bisphosphonates. | es_CL |
